We Need A New WPA

Seventy-six years ago this week, the Roosevelt Administration launched the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and undertook to rebuild America.  The Republicans loved to deride it as "makework," but in truth it widened roads, straightened and deepened waterways, built thousands
of bridges and tunnels, and put thousands to work.  We don't have to tell you thay today our infrastructure is a disaster.  This country spends less than half what Europse spends on infrastructure, less than a third of what China spends.  We need a new WPA.
